On Sunday, DOK Leipzig came to a close–with a record attendance! We are thrilled that so many animation and documentary film lovers visted our screenings and events and, above all, that the first edition under the direction of our festival director Ola Staszel has been such a great success. We welcomed more than 57,000 visitors and 2,100 accredited guests this year!
“My impression that the cinemas and other venues felt incredibly full has now been confirmed by the figures. Reaching a record number of attendees in my first year is already a great success. It strengthens my resolve to continue with the innovations introduced this year,” said Ola Staszel. “Creating opportunities for people to talk to one another and experience films together is one of my central visions for the festival. This will also be reflected in the future programming of DOK Leipzig.”
The screening of the opening film in the East Hall of Leipzig Central Station, which attracted an audience of around 1,300, the “Animation Night” and the Retrospective were particularly well attended. Once again, our extended reality exhibition DOK Neuland was among the highlights. Above all, the Masterclass with Helena Třeštíková added some extra sparkle: The event originally scheduled to last two hours ended up running for almost three due to many hands raised among the audience during the Q&A.
At DOK Industry, our platform for film professionals, 14 prizes have been awarded. Highlights included the DOK Industry Talks, the roundtable “Adult Animation in Europe” and the DOK Exchange XR Think Tank. Further, there was a higher number of one-to-one meetings at the DOK Co-Pro Market.
This year, we presented 217 films and extended reality works from 61 countries over 7 days. Our seven Golden Doves and two Silver Doves as well as numerous partner awards were presented on the Saturday of the festival.
