How can I submit?

Submissions can be registered via a form in our myDOK area. You'll need to create a new myDOK account before you can fill in the submission form.

I want to submit a film. What are the criteria for films?

You are welcome to submit artistic documentaries and animated films of all lengths as well as hybrid films between the two genres.

To be considered for the competition sections, it is important that the production year of your film is either 2020 or 2021. In addition, your film should not have been shown publicly before October 2020 and it needs to celebrate at least a German premiere at DOK Leipzig.

There is a submission for all films, but films from specific production countries are exempt from the fee (this happens automatically in the submission form). You find a list of these countries in our submission regulations.

If your film was made as part of your education or studies, it can also be exempted from the submission fee. Simply have your education or study certificate ready when you fill out the submission form in our myDOK section.

“We can’t wait to host DOK Leipzig again as a festival for our local audience. We are optimistic that this will be possible again in October. For this we are looking for films that bring us along on their narrative journey, that raise questions, provide food for thought, and above all inspire and challenge us artistically. Dear filmmakers, we look forward to your surprising insights, your bold visions and your original methods. We look forward to receiving numerous submissions!”

In case you didn’t know

The winner of the International Competition Documentary Film as well as all winners of our International Competition Short Documentary and Animation Films will qualify for consideration for the annual ACADEMY AWARDS® provided that the film otherwise complies with the Academy rules.

All documentaries by European filmmakers that are shown in our competitions are eligible for the European Film Award in the category of “European Documentary”. DOK Leipzig recommends three documentary films which have premiered with us to the Academy. The films in the selection must have a length of 70 minutes or more.
